I’m dreaming of a white Christmas… in the Sunshine!

A Christmas on the Costa Blanca – Spain’s beautiful White Coast!

Imagine spending Christmas at your holiday home in the sunshine, enjoying Christmas Day on the beach and joining in with the traditional Boxing Day swim in the Mediterranean Sea.

The festive holidays last a lot longer here in Spain as each year between December 24th and January 6th Spain comes alive to celebrate Christmas, (Navidad in Spanish). During this time of the year, everyone strives to fill their days with happiness, joy, and family fun in the sun.

On New Year’s Eve it’s time to say goodbye to the old year and welcome the New Year. We sing Auld Lang Syne and hold hands at midnight and then an hour later we celebrate Spanish New Years  (Nochevieja in Spanish), when people gather in Plazas or homes to eat the twelve lucky grapes. During the last 12 seconds of the year, everyone eats 12 grapes so that luck will be on their side for the whole year to come.

But the holiday season doesn’t end there! January 6th is a very important holiday in Spain as this is Three Kings Day (El Dia de los Reyes). Each city organises special events with traditional parades throughout the country and sometimes the Three Kings or even Santa arrive on jet skies along the coast.
