Traditional golf club thriving in a modern world

The last couple of years have been a difficult period of time for the leisure industry, during the various lockdowns and restrictions it would have been easy to close the doors of the business and resign yourself to a quiet spell.

The team at Broadstone Golf Club have done quite the opposite, with a variety of exciting projects being carried out throughout the winter months as they prepare for one of the busiest summer seasons the golf industry has ever seen. As the world emerges out of the pandemic, golf trips within the UK are at an all time high and Broadstone Golf Club in coastal Dorset are ready to impress it’s members and visitors at every step during 2022 and beyond…

It started back in March 2020 with the beginning of a full clubhouse renovation which has seen the bar and restaurant area transformed into a modern and stylish eatery and bar. Naturally, this has boosted the food and beverage business within the club and the management have received an influx of social memberships, function room hire and requests for parties, weddings and quiz nights.

Bolstered by a new General Manager, Jon Dry, who was appointed over this winter, as well as a climb up the Top 100 Golf Course rankings, the club has one eye on their upcoming 125th Year Anniversary that they are celebrating next year. With this in mind, the planned course rebuilding and modernisation that has spanned the last few years approaches completion with ‘Project 125’ tantalisingly close to finishing.

Jon Dry commented “It’s an extremely exciting time to have taken over here at Broadstone, it’s a wonderful club to be at and we have completed a lot of exciting projects on and off the golf course over the last few years and we have lots more to come!”

Perhaps none more so than the English Amateur Championships that are being held at the Dorset Club for the first time next year. Jon continued “It’s a real honour to host such a prestigious event, myself and the members here are really excited to welcome the best golfers across the UK and show what Broadstone and the surrounding area has to offer. We are keen to use the event to engage with the Membership as well as reach out to local businesses, the community and our neighbours by delivering taster golf lessons in schools, working with charities and placing Broadstone Golf Club at the heart of the social and leisure scene in the local area.”

Broadstone goes in to 2022 with a full membership and a waiting list for all applicants but is open for visitor bookings, even as a tee time at the club is becoming harder and harder to come by. Jon spoke on the demand the club is currently facing, “The number of enquiries we have received over the last few months is like nothing I’ve ever seen in my 20 years in the golf world!  It feels like every golfer in the country is planning their getaways for the summer and naturally, the Dorset coastline with Bournemouth’s nightlife so close and our wonderful countryside on the doorstep is a brilliant place for a golf trip. We are doing all we can to host as many groups as possible, but we have such a competitive and active membership that we can only take a restricted amount of travelling golfers”.

It certainly is exciting times for Broadstone as they prepare for the 2022 season and the future of golf in the area.
