Drink the January blues away…

…with tea! Yep, that’s right- tea, because it’s probably best not to continue the festive indulgences that have left you bloated, lethargic and maybe a little bit anxious (about both your waistline and your finances!). But we’re not talking about your Earl Grey, Darjeeling or even basic builders’ brew. Now, it’s all about CBD.

CBD (cannabidiol) has grown in popularity within the last couple of years, as more and more benefits are being discovered. Even the celebrities are endorsing it, with Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow all raving about the positive effects. CBD is a chemical compound found in marijuana, which seems to promote feelings of wellness and health in patients without the psychoactive effects, or “high” of marijuana itself. It helps support the Endocannabinoid System, which is essential for the body to maintain balance in a wide variety of processes, such as sleep patterns, appetite, mood, cognitive brain function and even our immune response.

One of the main uses of CBD is to reduce feelings of anxiety and depression, which is a common complaint in the New Year, after the excesses of the festive period. Many people using it report that it makes them feel calmer, happier and more able to cope with their day-to-day life. Some small studies have suggested a positive effect on fear of public-speaking and panic disorders. These qualities are linked to CBD’s ability to act on the brain’s receptors for serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates mood and social behaviour. Traditional prescription medications for anxiety and depression can have a long list of side effects, such as drowsiness, agitation, insomnia, sexual dysfunction and headache. As the number of prescriptions dispensed in the UK for antidepressants has almost doubled in the last 10 years from 36 million to 70.9 million, this clearly has the potential to help some of the population in a more natural way.

At Elegant Aesthetic, we stock the Daiba Organic range of CBD products, which include oils, balms and, you guessed it, tea! All the loose-leaf tea blends contain organic, full spectrum CBD flower and leaf to give you the highest quality brew. There are different varieties, that include extra ingredients to complement and enhance the benefits of the CBD. The ones recommended for this season would be:

  • “Green Detox & Restore”, with added mate herb and nettle to kick start that metabolism-boosting gym routine
  • “Wake Up & Revive”, with lemon, matcha and guarana to refresh the brain for that Monday morning meeting
  • “Sleep Well & Relax”, with balm mint and hops to calm your digestive woes and help you drift off peacefully at night

So, get the kettle on to comfort your mind, body and soul this New Year.
