Chatting with Jamie Butler

We talk to Jamie Butler, Director of Poole Bay Garden Rooms, to find out more about what their business offers and what drives them to succeed.

What was your first job?
My first job was in a local Gurkha restaurant where I was a waiter. This was when I was just 13 years old!

When was Poole Bay Garden Rooms first established?
Established in March 2023 following a visit to the factory where the panels are made for my other business (BUTLER INDUSTRIAL ROOFING AND CLADDING LTD).  This is where I saw the opportunity to expand my business into the residential sector.

What led you into this line of work?
I have been in the industrial roofing and cladding business for the last 11 years so it was quite a natural progression for me as I already understand and have the knowledge of the materials used as it is more or less the same but on a much smaller scale.  Butler Industrial Roofing and Cladding Ltd and Poole Bay Garden Rooms work along side each other and the lads who work on the industrial side also work with me building our rooms.  This includes my older brother Joe, my dad Justin and my mum Jackie, who works in the office with me.

Can your garden rooms be tailor made to clients’ needs?
Yes 100% they can be tailored to any requirements.

What purposes can your garden rooms be used for?
The list is endless but a few examples of uses are:  Garden office, gym, yoga studio, kids playroom, music room, garden bar, man/lady cave, nail bar, dog grooming, hairdressers, to name but a few.

Pictured left and above is a room we installed in Parkstone, which we received fantastic feedback for…

“We came across Poole Bay Garden Rooms on Instagram and got Jamie round for a quote. He came round really quickly to quote and was super flexible in terms of options for how much or little of the work we did ourselves. He also helped us sort out someone to remove a tree, who did an excellent and really quick job too! Jamie and the team got to work quickly digging a hole and laying the base, then the actual room went up super fast in less than a day. After that, plastering and electrics were done in no time (with a little break to give us time to paint and lay the floor ourselves – he also could do it too but we decided to do it ourselves to save some ££).

“We are very impressed with the room, it has surpassed all expectations and is a great additional space to use. Jamie was really helpful and professional. I would 100% recommend getting a garden room and 1000% recommend Jamie and his team.

“Thanks so much, Hayley Davis”

Is the use of eco-friendly materials an important factor to your company?
Poole Bay Garden Rooms uses the highest-quality, sustainable materials in the construction of our garden rooms. Kingspan’s QuadCore KS1000MR Micro Rib Wall Panel form the core of our builds, offering excellent thermal performance and energy efficiency, keeping it warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Quadcore insulation is almost twice as thermal as standard mineral fibre and 11% more thermal than high-quality PIR board.

Furthermore, we utilise double- glazed windows and doors, ensuring that our garden rooms are both energy-efficient and comfortable throughout the year.

Being eco-friendly is massively important to us.  No timber which means no chopping down trees.  No treatment needed like traditional timber rooms, just give them a wipe down when needed. Also, we have the option to use ground screws for the base rather than concrete.  This is much less disruptive to the area as no digging is needed and no mess.  This also gives us the option to install rooms on uneven ground.

What is your most memorable installation to date?
I think possibly the office I recently built at home. I love using it and I feel it looks really smart.

What drives you to succeed?
Being able to support my family as I employ my mum Jackie who helps me in the office, my dad, my older brother, and my uncle also work for me on both the industrial roofing and the garden rooms.

What has been your greatest achievement to date?
Several things not one single thing.  When I bought my bungalow in Sandy Lane last year, aged only 27, was a really good feeling. As was when both of my websites went live, as I feel they are both looking pretty good,  butlercladding.co.uk and poolebaygardenrooms.com

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
On a beach retired would be nice but it is more likely to be still working hard, maybe with a family.

What are your plans for 2024?
To grow both of my businesses.
