Chatting with Elizabeth McPherson

We talk to Elizabeth McPherson from The Lifestyle Concept to find out more
about what their business offers and what drives them to succeed.

What was your first job?
My first job was as a Legal Secretary in a small solicitors office in my hometown in Cornwall, aged 18.

When was The Lifestyle Concept first established?
The Lifestyle Concept was established first as a lifestyle and clothing shop in Highcliffe in 2015 and then transitioned to becoming a decluttering professional in 2017.

What service does your company offer?
Decluttering and organising.

How do customers benefit from your assistance?
I help my customers decide what can stay and what can go and help them let go of that which no longer serves them.  Not only that, we re-organise so that the home just flows better and feels a calmer space in which to live.

What first got you into this line of work?
As a child I loved to declutter my room and seemed to have a sense that  letting go of things which no longer serves you, was a good thing. I have done that for much of my life.

Do you get a sense of satisfaction from decluttering other peoples home?
I get an immense sense of satisfaction when I work with a client from start to finish, I especially like it when the home is transformed.

What happens to the clutter when you remove it from someones home?
I detest the thought of filling a hole in the ground with our clutter so I encourage my clients to recycle either by donating via a charity or similar or by recycling. So much can be recycled these days.

What has been your most memorable project to date?
My favourite project was working with a lovely family in Shafestbury. We decluttered the entire home over a period of time, re-organising so that the place looked fabulous for selling. I then helped with the logistics of the move.  It was lovely to see the project through from start to finish and the family were lovely to work with.

What drives you to succeed?
I am driven to succeed by the love of what I do.  I just know instinctively, that having a less cluttered life is a good thing. So many of us carry the weight of the past in our clutter and although good memories are lovely, it’s important to not allow them to keep you stuck in the past. I love the healing that goes along with the process, letting go is so cathartic

What do you think makes a good entrepreneur?
A good entrepreneur never gives up, even when the going is tough, and is prepared to admit mistakes and learn from them.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In ten year’s time, I see myself in a cottage in Devon with my Parsons Terrier called Peter (I don’t have him yet but I will), doing my garden, disco dancing in my shed (which will have a sparkling globe), feeling content that my book has been published and that it has helped many to move forward in their lives.  Oh, and giving talks to anyone who wants to listen to my story

What are your plans for 2024?
My plans for 2024 are to get my book published, do a book launch, set up talks around the Dorset area (based on the book) and to have a steady, loyal, group of clients who work with me, not just on the one off projects, but on an ongoing basis. In other words regular clients working towards a common goal.

I would love to have a chat to you about your decluttering needs.
