Reviewed; Delish Deli

Nestled in the heart of Westbourne you will find Delish Deli, where you can relax and soak up the atmosphere dining in or take your food to go. Despite a turbulent couple of years for everyone with the pandemic hitting, Delish Deli were not dis-heartened, they established themselves in the community delivering hearty takeaways when they were unable to open their doors.

Fast-forward to present times and the deli is buzzing with customers. We stopped to visit on a cold winters day, with the promise of sampling their menu packed full of winter warmers and other delights; from stews and pies to toasties and signature sandwiches.

There are a plethora of options on the menu with something for everyone, especially our resident vegetarian who was delighted about the sheer number of options on offer. So we get straight down to business with the important task of choosing our meals.

To tide us over we sampled Hil’s Homemade Sausage Roll from the deli counter, with flakey buttery pastry this went down a treat. Paired beautifully with a locally made chilli jam which really got the taste buds going, never has a sausage roll caused such “ooh’s and aah’s” – and this was only the beginning!

Without a doubt the Delish Beef Stew had to be ordered, we had heard tales of this stew and lets be honest, is there anything better to warm up those chilled bones? It did not disappoint! Slowly cooked braised beef with shallots, baby carrots and button mushrooms – every bite was coated with the thick, rich sauce made from red wine and gravy. Of course served with a much loved dumpling, along wth mash potatoes and green beans on the side. If you are looking for a true winter warmer this is the dish to order, it is rich in flavour and leaves you with that comfortable satisfied feeling.

The Pork, Apple and Cider pie was stuffed to bursting with filling, the pastry melted in the mouth and every bite had plenty of flavour and decent chunks of meat! Accompanied with creamy mash potatoes and fresh green beans – another homely dish that gives you a sense of warmth and contentment.

The Watercress Pesto & Pine Nut Linguine was a truly indulgent dish – who doesn’t love a big bowl of pasta! With a generous helping of pesto coating every bite, topped with Parmesan cheese, it is a classic dish that keeps you coming back for more.

To top off our experience we sampled some of the delicate cakes which we selected from the quaint cake trolley bought to the table – all freshly made, a little bit naughty but we encourage you to allow yourself that extra little treat.

Delish Deli is a must visit, with so much choice on the menu and a warm friendly welcome from the team you can relax and switch off from the world for a couple of hours and indulge in some treats for the taste buds!
