I write this staring at a Christmas destroyed for our industry and with every phone-call another dreaded cancellation. I can’t blame our customers, it’s not their fault – but got to say it’s hard to conjure up anything positive to say at the moment. We are looking down the barrel of the gun and the Wonky Table, my lobby network is in full red alert.
A Christmas destroyed, again. Irresponsible government and scaremongering media has meant that the Christmas has faded away and we now look set for a very hard dark quarter.
When I wrote last month’s column, we were so positive about the Christmas period, we were full and looking to fill the coffers for the long winter ahead. Now we face renewed restrictions, a December disaster in terms of trade – ultimately it’s going to be a very difficult winter with much depleted reserves – with my phone on overload with just one question, “Where’s Rishi?”
However, yet again it is time for the nation to come together and hopefully get through this next hurdle. Enjoy your Christmas be safe and spare a thought in the new year for hospitality. Eat local, eat independently, and eat often – and if you’ need to buy a present – maybe a gift voucher or two!
