It has come around incredibly quickly and we are getting ready! We are looking forward to the cracker debris – although the quite atrocious QR cracker is also making the rounds! The drunken work gatherings are just around the corner and a decent night’s sleep is now on the cards for January; although this year all my staff will be having four days of over Christmas – something unheard of, but something they deserve!
It’s the time of year that rotas are awash with long shifts, wine orders fill the room and take a small army to put away (into any space that isn’t filled with boxes of crackers!). The kitchen teams are prepping for the apocalypse, having nightmares about never ending tickets and there are just never enough plates or chairs… ever!
But this year it’s different; with a year like no other behind us the industry is facing a staffing crisis and supply chains are struggling. It’s a pivotal point for Hospitality after an eerily slow October and November.
For the customer it’s time to get the glad rags on and party like its 2019, yet when you’re out this December spare a thought for the hospitality workers out there – they are the unsung heroes of Christmas. Spread a little love to the teams, buy them a drink, say thank you and don’t, whatever you do, give them a hard time.
Our industry has faced an incredibly hard 18 months and the guys that are still standing are the gurus of hospitality – they are the ones that have hospitality running through their veins. They will do their absolute best, they will be incredible, and remember a kind word goes a long way.
