Gran Canaria: The perfect year-round destination

This beautiful island is known as a ‘Continent in miniature’ and one worth exploring. Take a luxury beach holiday to the south of the island and soak up the Canarian sun at the Maspalomas dunes. Spend a few days in the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a city with an interesting heritage and charming old quarter combined with fabulous gastronomy and superior shopping. Those wanting a more authentic experience on this volcanic isle should head north, where they can enjoy scenic walks and plenty of star gazing opportunities.

Maspalomas & Meloneras on the southernmost point of Gran Canaria are one of the most stylish areas in Spain. With its thousand-year palm grove, natural lagoon, beautiful white sandy beach and famous dunes, Maspalomas is placed within a protected area. Meloneras, on the other hand, has a wonderful, long oceanfront promenade with bars, restaurants, boutique shopping, casino and a golf course.

Other resorts in Gran Canaria include Arguineguín, known for its great micro-climate and Caribbean-style sandy beach, beautiful white sand at Amadores beach and Puerto de Mogán, known as a “Little Venice” because of the many channels which pass under bridges between the buildings. Pretty Puerto de Mogan has beautiful sub-tropical plants, marina, beach, bars and restaurants.

The historical quarter is the city’s most beautiful area with cobbled streets, pretty corners and a variety of styles ranging from late Gothic to Renaissance. If you’re interested in culture, then this part of town is dotted with Gran Canarian landmarks including Columbus’ house, Canarian museum and the Santa Ana Cathedral.
