Sustainability is at the forefront of people’s minds, and how you heat your home can make a big difference to your own carbon footprint.
Good Energy has been helping households to enjoy a greener life for almost a quarter of a century, originally supplying 100 per cent renewable electricity to homes and businesses but recently expanding into the installation of domestic heat pumps and solar panels too.

Last year they exported a huge amount of clean energy to the grid – enough to power almost 230,000 average houses for a whole year and preventing the emission of almost 120,000 tonnes of carbon.
One of the best ways for households to cut their carbon emissions and cut costs is to switch to a heat pump. Grants of £7,500 are available, and there are proposals for them to be the default option for all new homes by 2025.
However, a big challenge is the level of misinformation around their installation and operation. Good Energy commissioned Opinium to survey a sample of South East residents on a wide range of topics around sustainability and found 14 per cent wrongly believe a heat pump is louder than a fridge, ten per cent wrongly believe they only work in newer homes, and eight per cent wrongly believe they don’t work in the cold.
Good Energy is campaigning to combat these myths and show that heat pumps are not loud and can work well in older homes. What’s more, they’re four times as efficient as traditional gas boilers and provide consistent warmth throughout the day.
Most homes have traditionally been heated by oil or gas, but these polluting and expensive fossil fuels are exposed to the volatilities of the international energy markets.
Heat pumps use electricity instead – which is increasingly sourced from UK renewable sources – and are therefore the perfect alternative, particularly for off-grid properties with oil or LPG tanks.
