Compassion in action
Lewis-Manning Hospice reflects on success and looks ahead
We chat with Clare Gallie, CEO of Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, based in Poole and serving the communities of East Dorset, Purbeck, Bournemouth, Christchurch and West Hampshire.
Tell us a little about what the hospice has achieved in recent months.
Well firstly I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to your readers and the community for their invaluable support of Lewis-Manning over the past year.
Your generosity and commitment have made a profound difference, enabling us to achieve remarkable milestones in enhancing end of life care for our community. Together, we have:
- Developed our unique anticipatory Hospice at Home service for Poole & Purbeck, bringing compassionate care directly to families in need, in their own homes.
- Strengthened ‘Closer to Home’ services across East Dorset, ensuring more accessible support for patients.
- Supported over 1,300 patients this year, offering comfort and dignity during their most challenging times.
- Expanded our care offerings to include Occupational Therapy, providing vital support to improve quality of life for patients.
- Enhanced our Complementary Therapy services, addressing the holistic needs of patients and their loved ones.
- Developed the Family Support services, now extending to children and young people, recognising the importance of supporting the entire family.
These achievements were recently recognised when we were honoured with the Dorset Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Social Impact Award’ at the annual Business Awards, a testament to the positive influence we are making together in our community.
None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary kindness of our supporters—people like your readers. On behalf of Lewis-Manning Hospice Care and the families we serve, thank you for being part of this journey. Your generosity continues to inspire hope and make a real difference in the lives of so many.
What plans and ambitions do you have for 2025?
As we look ahead, we are determined to build on these successes and extend our reach even further. We will be aiming to continue and increase our partnership working with other healthcare providers, including the NHS, other hospices, care homes and all of those working so hard in our GP Primary Care services.
Our first family focused event of the year will be our annual Muddy Dog Dash, taking place at Upton Country Park on Sunday 29th March, a fabulously fun day out for all the family and of course your dog!
We look forward to opening our 10th shop in Ferndown in early 2025.
In the coming year we will continue to work hard supporting local families facing end of life illness and while we receive just 10 percent of our annual funding from the Government and our National Insurance contributions have risen by nearly £100,000 ,we would ask our community to continue their vital support of the work we do in making such an impact for the people of Dorset.
I would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy and peaceful new year!
