Meet; Swain & Rands

We talk with Swain & Rands about how the company has grown, the services offered, their core values and what the future holds for the business

Can you tell us about how Swain & Rands was originally established?
Swain and Rands have been going since 2013, the two Directors Mark Swain and Darren Rands have over 50 years combined experience and oversee our entire operation as well as taking an interest in each and every job, to ensure customer satisfaction.

They started the company as they believed they could offer exceptional service with a no pressure company, they both bring different skills sets to which they both excel.  They now have a team of ten employees who help organise the day to day running of the office and the fitting teams – who carry out the installations. All our surveyors and fitters are fully trained, MTC qualified and employed.

As a company we pride ourselves on our customer service skills paired with extensive expert knowledge. We appreciate that every job is different and that styles, tastes and security needs vary with every customer, with this in mind we offer a tailored service and free, no obligation quotes.

Can you tell us about the services you offer?
We offer our customers all manner of products from windows, doors and conservatories to the more specialist projects such as building extensions and installing the acclaimed Orangery LivinRoom.

Something that not everyone realises is that all of our products can be made in a variety of styles and colours! From Cherry Red & Chartwell Green windows and Composite doors, to Black Brown PVC Patio sliders and Anthracite Grey BiFolds, Swain & Rands are allowing homes across Bournemouth and Poole to be truly unique.

This not only allows people to make their new home improvement feel even more original, but it can also play an important role in making your home feel authentic or true to its age. This is especially true if you’re lucky enough to live in a conservation area, when colour and style matching allows Swain & Rands to bring A-Rated UPVC, aluminium and timber frames to areas most companies can’t. Plus with guarantees and independently backed insurance offered on all jobs as standard it’s clear to see why the company is adding splashes of colour to homes across Dorset.

The LivinRoom Orangery is a truly multi-functional home extension, creating a pleasant and relaxing space. Alternatively, it can be used as a perfect family room. The LivinRoom Orangery uses the well proven Ultraframe Classic roof at its heart, and a well-engineered internal framework is added, then plastered, to give a perimeter ceiling all the way round.

We can also build conservatories, which can do a lot more than just provide somewhere to sit and read on a sunny day. Many homeowners wish they had more space in their home, but if you’re not in the position to consider a full extension, then maybe installing a conservatory is the answer.

With modern conservatories now being built utilising the best insulation and double, or even triple glazing they really have become an all-year-round room. With such a vast range of styles now available, and even the option to design fully bespoke conservatories, there really is no limit to what your new space can be used for.

Can you explain in a little more detail how the ‘buy now pay later’ service can benefit your customers and how it works?
Our “Buy now pay 12 months later” on windows and conservatories* enables our customers to improve their homes even when on a tight budget. If you are interested in this service please call us on 01202 536422 to discuss the options with a member of our team and find our how this service can benefit you.

What do you believe makes Swain & Rands unique?
We rely on our recommendations from previous customers and our advertising. We totally believe that the customer should have time to decide without being pressurised into making a decision; plus our directors are completely hands on with all jobs.

We see that you have high score on sites such as Which, HomePro and Check-a-trade, which you must be very proud of! Do your customers often offer feedback on completed projects?

Yes we are extremely proud of our ratings, we scored 9.8/10 on Checkatrade, 4.9/5 on Which and 9.6/10 on HomePro, we take great pride in customer satisfaction and feel that these scores reflect this. We have had some excellent feedback and testimonials from our customers which can be found on these sites.

“Very helpful through tough restrictive covenant discussions. The quality of the work was very good and the workmen were all very polite and friendly.”
– Mr Robinson, Swanage

What does it mean to be Certass certified?
Being Certass certified gives our customers peace of mind when purchasing any of our products as it means we follow the strict installations standards expected, and comply with building regulations as required. We’re able to offer on completion of installation a certificate.

We truly do things differently, it is because of our clear values that we are also recognised by the industries other leading accreditation companies including Which? Trusted Traders, Checkatrade and HomePro, we meet their strict criteria and get their accreditation as a reward.

We understand you sponsor a local charity, can you tell us more about this?
We are proud to sponsor Mosaic, a Dorset wide charity offering a pathway of support to bereaved children, young people and their families. As a company we donate £10 for every contract valued at £2000 and over, we hope that this money will help towards the costs of residential weekends for bereaved children. We have also previously taken part in Tough Mudders in support of Mosaic and raised funds.

Mosaic was formed in 2007 to fill the gap in bereavement provision for children and young people in Dorset. Prior to Mosaic, support for children and young people after the death of someone they love was very limited. Mosaic offers a range of support after bereavement, including one-to-one counselling for children and young people. In addition, family activity days and residential weekends offer those we support the opportunity to meet others who have a shared experience. As well as our bereavement support, Mosaic offer pre-bereavement support to children and young people who are facing the death of a loved one due to a terminal illness.
