Summer 2019 Interior Design Trends

Katie Thomas, Design Director of KTM Design and Regional Director of the Society of British and International Design (SBID)

When looking at the Interior Design trends for 2019, there is an overriding theme for more sustainability and natural materials. There is a real emphasis is on choosing designs that are classic and longer lasting, rather than something you’ll get tired of quickly. Stepping away from the tech-obsessed decor we saw dominate the 2018 design trends, 2019 move towards fresh, natural materials such as stone, copper, concrete, and granite. These elements will
help bring an organic and serene ambiance to any space while reflecting  the world around your home.

These are some key trends for Interiors for Summer 2019:

  • We’ve started to say goodbye to stainless steel and polished nickel, and are welcoming brass accents back  into  our  homes.
  • Mixing metals (no more than a mix of two to three different metal accents) used throughout a room is very ‘in’, and will always be a timeless and tasteful way to create balance and definition.
  • The latest interiors colour trend is barely there, warm, earthy neutrals. For the past few years, grey has dominated the neutral interiors palette, but sandy shades are back. With ‘Spiced Honey’ as Dulux’s colour of the year and Pantone’s ‘Living Coral’, colour palettes are looking warm, earthy and energising.
  • The latest trend with bathrooms is all about bold, dark, sultry bathroom designs that evoke an indulgent high-end experience.
