The Importance of a Gender Balanced Workforce

Gill Donnell MBE – founder of the Successful Women in Business Network

Today is a great time to do as much as possible to create a more balanced world, whilst women have come such a long way, there is still much to be done.

March 8th 2019 is International Women’s Day (IWD) and the campaign theme this year, is one of
#BalanceforBetter – a call to action to drive gender balance across the globe. Balance is not a women’s issue, it is a business issue. Productivity often increases because men and women solve problems in different ways. They are equal, but not identical and that diversity of thinking is essential to the success of a business venture.

A fact that is often overlooked is that men benefit too. Despite what many people assume, gender equality is not strictly limited to creating advantages for women. “Gender equality” means simply that every employee has access to the same benefits, which is why equality is an “everyone” issue.

The #IWD2019 campaign is focussing on a gender-balanced boardroom, gender-balanced government, gender-balanced media coverage, gender-balanced sports coverage… to name just a few.

So, check out what is happening in your community – we are hosting an all-day conference with great female speakers, an expert panel, workshops and much more. Why not join us in celebrating the successes and achievements of women and encourage more balance in our world.

… and in case you were wondering, yes there is an International Men’s Day, November 19th, and we look forward to celebrating that day too.
