The House Removal Surveyor

Steve Webber, Director of Maidmans Moving & Storage in Poole, has many years’ experience in the moving and storage industry.  Mr. B of Poole asked, “What should I expect when a house removal surveyor visits my property?”

Steve says: “Your removal company should be happy to send a surveyor to provide you with a free, no obligation quotation. There are several things, which will help you judge if the company you have invited to quote will be suitable to carry out the move.”

“Did the surveyor arrive punctually; were they smartly dressed, polite and helpful? Was their vehicle well maintained, clean and what you would expect from a  professional removal company?”

“The surveyor should ask questions about you and your plans, to fully understand your needs and concerns. You may need temporary storage if your new home is not ready when you move.”

“A good surveyor will also be able to notice any issues such as difficult access or restricted doorways and offer solutions to ensure the move runs smoothly. They may even raise issues you had not considered such as the dismantling of furniture, the need for specialist wrapping materials, furniture protection or tailor-made containers.”

Steve says: “Remember that removal companies base their quote on the volume, services and distance so it’s important to de clutter prior to the move or the visit of the estimator. The surveyor will assess accurately the size of vehicle along with the number of days and porters needed to remove everything you plan to take with you.”
