Autumn Interior Trends

Katie Thomas, Design Director of KTM Design and Regional Director of the Society of British and International Design (SBID)

As the weather shifts from summer to autumn, it is a great opportunity to make changes to your home. With the cooler weather kicking in, we see a transition from bright, citrus tones and pastel colours to warmer, richer palettes. This is evident in both fashion and interior trends, as what we see on the catwalk trickles down to interiors.

Burgundies, plums and purples become more prominent as the cool evenings begin, but the contrasting combination of mustard and emerald will be taking centre stage. These darker colours evoke a sense of cosiness, quietude and being wrapped up in the warmth.

Look out for statement pieces to give a new focal point to your room this season, whether this is an indulgent leather chair or a tartan footstool. As one of the most dominant fabrics in fashion this season, leather is making its way further into our homes, and tartan, checks and paisley will be key for bringing a touch of heritage charm.

This season the aim is to create a moody, enchanting atmosphere of comfort and seduction. We do this by layering rich textures and patterns in the dark, sultry colour palettes.
