Ask the Expert About… The House Removal Surveyor

Steve Webber, Director of Maidmans Moving & Storage

Steve, has many years’ experience in the moving and storage industry.

Mr S of Poole asked “What should I expect of a house removal surveyor and apart from a quote for my move what benefit will I get from their visit?”

Steve says: “Your removal company should be happy to send a surveyor to provide you with a free, no obligation survey. There are a number of things, which will help you judge if the company you have invited to quote will be suitable to carry out the move.

Did the surveyor arrive punctually; was he smartly dressed, polite and helpful? It is also worth noting the type of vehicle he drives; is it well maintained, clean and what you would expect from a professional removal company?”

“The surveyor should ask questions about you and your plans, to fully understand your needs and concerns. You may need temporary storage if your new home is not ready when you move”.

“A good surveyor will also be able to notice any issues such as difficult access or restricted doorways and offer solutions to ensure the move runs smoothly. They may even raise issues you had not considered”

Steve says: “Remember that removal companies base their price on the volume to be moved, as well as the distance. The more items you move, the greater the removal cost. The surveyor will assess accurately the size of vehicle along with the number of days and porters needed to remove everything you plan to take with you”.
