The Original Bed Warehouse is the newborn business taking the industry by storm. This August marks their first year of opening and in that short time over 2,500 local residents have snatched up their phenomenal prices and unbeatable deals. Founders ‘Gary Stout’ and ‘Andy Watts’ have a combined 30 years in retail, wholesale and manufacturing and this company is nothing less than a product of that extensive experience and their passion for exceptional customer service.
“We noticed the bed industry is split in three directions: Online, Large Multiples and Small Independent”, says Gary.
Whilst online retailers can sometimes give you a great price, you’re purchasing a bed you’ve never seen, from a company on the other side of the world. It’s going to be shipped much like any other package, so is suspect to arriving late or worse, damaged in transit.
Large Multiples are all designed to do one thing: Take as much money from you as possible. They use ‘sales’ that often don’t exist and once you’re in the store the salesman, whom is driven by incentives, will take you on a journey to spend far more than you ever planned to, but it’s ok, they do finance! The lead times are much longer, usually 4-6 weeks and you are often charged for delivery.
Small Independents seem to be disappearing, which is a shame because more often than not you’re given a friendly, tailored service and an honest approach. However the ever-growing force of the Internet, and our, “I want it yesterday” mentality, has left this side of the industry unable to compete.

The Journey (Thus Far)
The year leading up to opening Andy and Gary traveled across the country meeting suppliers and manufacturers and meticulously put together the first range of mattresses to be sold at The Original Bed Warehouse. The response was phenomenal, notably with their kick off mattress ‘The Original Pocket 1000’ (starting at just £169). The opening months went from strength to strength with the entire collection being incredibly well received by
their customers.
“As our customer base increased we soon became aware that their requirements were becoming more specific, with that we developed our ‘handmade collection’, (starting from £419) to meet those needs. Suddenly, the customer could now modify their mattress for the perfect sleeping experience. We feel as if now we can cater for any requirement, need and price point – offering a wide selection of mattresses, which all provide different comfort levels”, Says Andy.
