We love getting to know the independent businesses that make up our community, particularly those that go the extra mile for their customers, and genuinely put everything into what they do. With this in mind, we met with Adam Maton, Founder of Wemove, to find out how this modern-day removals business is honing their mission to stand out from the industries’ crowd, and deliver on truly great customer service.
How did Wemove start?
In a way, by accident. Like so many of us, Adam was tired of the corporate slog and wanted to expand his horizons outside of the office walls. It was following a year off travelling in China and returning to a spell of labouring at a friend’s business, that he first stumbled on the idea of a removals business. “I was working on a site, when a friend asked if I knew of a reliable Man and Van service, so I decided to volunteer myself. I started doing small jobs moving the odd bit of furniture, but I always stayed true to things that I thought mattered, like turning up on time, following through on the things I’d promised, and just generally being a friendly human being”, Says Adam.
The jobs got more frequent and the business grew, and Adam knew he could no longer do this on his own, so he enlisted the help of his brother, who’d previously worked in removals, to join the team. The pair worked hard day in and day out, paying close attention to ways in which they could do things differently to the stereotypically rough-around-the-edges removal guys, and sure enough the growth continued. Today, Wemove is a close-knit family who all strive to be the best at what they do.
What makes Wemove unique?
Following one of their core values, “embrace the difference”, Wemove are dedicated to dispelling the stereotypes and proving, through their friendly, honest and jargon-free approach, that although moving is stressful, moving day doesn’t have to be. From the initial call with Helen (aka Mama Wemove) in the office, to the genuine pleasure of helping you from their removals team, Wemove aim to make their service as friendly and as human as possible. The core team have been together since the beginning of the business and are all proud of the great reputation they have built. The genuine customer reviews on CheckaTrade and Which Trusted Trader back this up.
Who makes up the Wemove team?
We’ve already introduced some of the team—Helen, the Operations Manager and of course Adam, the Founder—but there are also a squad of friendly individuals behind them too. Namely, Jack, Jake, Will and Jevan, who will lift and move, often using specialist equipment, to ensure that customers receive a stress-free moving day. Uniquely, they also have a team of packing ladies, who will carefully wrap your possessions ready for moving day. Adam comments, “Every move has a story and often it’s quite an emotional experience, which is why we try to be there as caring individuals, as much as an actual removals team. When we pack and move someone belongings, we take great care with each and every item because we understand that these are much more than just furniture and accessories—they’re memories”.
What is the Wemove process?
Every potential move starts with an initial phone conversation, or email, with Adam or Helen, after which Adam will make a house call to properly assess—to the nth cubic foot—exactly what is being moved. This is also an ideal opportunity to see if their customers need any further assistance, such as dismantling & reassembling furniture like beds and wardrobes.
Using a tailor-made software system Adam will calculate how many vans, packing and labour is needed to get the job done to the highest standard, and produce a transparent quote that reflects exactly that, complete with any specific notes for the customer or need-to-know details for the removals team.
Come move day, the team will arrive in the morning and carefully load your possessions into the van, using special covers, protectors and plenty of cushioning, to ensure a safe, breakage-free journey. They will have the van meticulously packed by their promised time, but fear not; should your keys be delayed or unexpected event occur, they won’t charge any kind of late fees—they’re there for you, as long as it takes…but a cheeky compensational brew won’t go a miss!
Move Day Promise
For most companies, their mission statement is drafted long before the business is actually up and running, and sure enough Wemove has their own too, but this, their “Move Day Promise”, is something else. This declaration was born out of three years trading—and moreover learning—at a point where the company had already helped over 500 customers move homes, and it sums up Wemove’s and all of it’s team’s aptitude for each and every move:
“On your moving day we promise you a team of smartly dressed, well-trained removalists will arrive at your home. They will not cause damage, bring dirt into your property or be lacking the necessary equipment, skills or support. They will be well mannered and efficient. In a world in which we routinely expect problems with service, we are committed to making your day stress-free.”
