Getting a Quote or Estimate

Steve has many years experience in the moving and storage industry. Miss S of Poole asked,

“What is the difference between a removals quote or an estimate?”

Steve says: “Maidmans always sends a trained professional to provide an in home consultation in order to assess as accurately as possible what is required”. Steve advises the following should be considered when a quote is given:

  • The volume of goods to be moved.
  • The access to the property and to ascertain things like how many flights of stairs there are inside the home etc.
  • Are there any particularly difficult items such as ultra wide screen TV’s, large mirrors, pianos etc. needing special care.
  • Which items you want to be professionally packed and whether packing materials are required.

Following the consultation, we supply a detailed written quotation, showing what is included or excluded in the move. This is a fixed price that can’t be changed once accepted by the customer. A quotation should always outline exactly what is covered and anything subject to additional charges, so you will know exactly what the final bill will be.

An estimate is only an educated guess at what a removal cost is likely to be – but it is not binding and will not cover any unforeseen developments. You could find the removal invoice is far more than you had expected.” Steve said: “It is always best to use a reputable and experienced BAR member removal company, to provide a written quotation outlining everything which will be provided for your home move. This is much safer than getting an estimate, which may cost more than budgeted”.
